School of Mortgage Lending
Online Learning Methodology
Overview
The School of Mortgage Lending Online Learning system combines the best of computer-based training and correspondence training, resulting in a superior level of educational experience, which we refer to as an “accelerated learning experience”. This system is particularly effective with technical content because it uses several learning styles, well surpassing classroom style learning experience in retention.
This system enables the learner to comprehend through the use of exploration and experimental techniques ~ a very dynamic process. When a student utilizes our instructor for questions and discussion, all elements of the learning process are involved, ensuring that knowledge actually is stored in long-term memory.
When combined with the flexibility of the program ~ allowing the student to be most focused on material – and the excellent manual as a desk reference ~ our students profit from this combination of high quality materials, learning experience and the ongoing desk resource.
Training Materials
Our students receive an online “textbook” which is reading material, organized in a binder, and set up like a traditional textbook with chapters and quizzes at the end of each chapter.
Hard copy courses may be ordered as well, or printed out from the online course.
The School of Mortgage Lending students continually tell us how much they value the binder; which becomes a desk manual and ongoing resource. One of the advantages to Distance Learning, over classroom or computer-based training, is the ability to review material after completion of the course. This aspect of our training program sets us apart from other providers and provides significant added value to our students.
Procedure
1. Order
Completing the registration process gets things started. Click on the course you want and the site takes you through the order process and establishes your record.
2. Course Work
All courses are available immediately upon order placement. Some courses are also shipped as hard copy as part of our standard policy, and shipping charges apply. A student may request hard copy of any course by sending an email to susanw@schoolofmortgagelending.com.
Students read the material in the hard copy textbook or online, except in those cases where a state requires evidence of timing. In those cases, reading must be done online to verify sufficient time is spent.
When a student is ready to submit a quiz, or all of the quizzes, he/she logs on to our web site, goes to their course and completes the quiz(zes). Detailed instructions for this process are provided with the receipt.
Our instructors are available to answer questions, either by phone or email. Details are provided with the course text.
3. Certificate of Completion
Upon receipt of the last exam, we provide an email certificate, which can be used for state compliance. A student must pass each exam with a score of 70% or better.
Completion
Students have 6 months to complete a course. We recommend completing it in a shorter time frame, for the best learning experience.
Authentication and Timing
An authenticated course is one in which we provide evidence that the registered student is the one completing the course. We do this by requiring students to answer a set of innocuous questions. These questions pop up on a random basis throughout the course completion, and the student has a short window of time to answer the question. Failure to answer timely will cause the student to be locked out of the course and he/she must call to be reinstated.
A timed course is one during which a timer is running for the course reading, so the required number of hours is verified and reflected on the certificate. Detailed instructions for timed and authenticated courses are available in the course itself.
All courses are timed; however, for those that must meet state compliance purposes, we confirm that the student meets minimum time spent.
